Each case report is a synopsis of a resolved legal matter in which I provided expert support. These case vignettes demonstrate some of the types of matters I’ve assisted with. All are in the realm of pain medicine. The majority of these are regarding the oversight of controlled substances and standard of care in opioid stewardship. I have provided expert support to the federal government, state police and state licensing boards regarding opiate abuse, addiction and diversion. Many of the cases I have reviewed involved lethal narcotic overdoses. I’ve also provided expert witness support in the realm of both interventional pain management and health care billing fraud, as demonstrated in the attached cases.
In each case review, I start by reviewing the salient aspects of the legal complaint and/or other issues at hand. I then describe my role in resolving the case. Most matters required my review of medical records. Other cases included reviewing related documentation such as coroner’s reports, police reports and a range of other supporting documentation. I also describe when research was required to buttress the expert opinions I provided. I include other actions I may have taken such as writing reports, submitting affidavits, sitting for deposition and/or providing testimony in court. Lastly, each report concludes with the final outcome of the case and how my role contributed to that outcome.
I was asked to provide expert witness support for a health-care insurance carrier who was seeking restitution for fraudulent invoices that were paid for the provision of a transmucosal instant release fentanyl (TIRF) products. The plaintiff alleged that the pharmaceutical manufacturer was perpetrating a criminal conspiracy resulting in undue payments.

Continue reading...In this case I was asked to assist in the defense of a physician who had performed a T5/6 epidural on a patient who subsequently developed an epidural hematoma and resultant spinal cord injurywith paralysis.
Continue reading...I was asked to assist in the defense of a physician and his practice in a pain management case. The physician was accused of negligence, carelessness and culpable conduct resulting in permanent injuries, pain, suffering and wrongful death. Additional compensation was being sought by the decedent’s spouse for damages related to loss of consortium.
